Healthy Hot Cocoa Recipe

I love Christmas lights! And for my family, there is nothing better than loading up in the car with a blanket and some hot cocoa to drive around and enjoy all of the beautiful lights and decorations this time of year. Sometimes, we even wear our comfy, cozy pajamas and that puts the whole thing over-the-top!

Whether you are on a Christmas light tour or you are cuddled up next to the fireplace at home, hot cocoa is a must-have for the cold winter months. But have you read the ingredient list on the typical hot chocolate packet from the store…

SUGAR, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, VEGETABLE OIL (PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED COCONUT OR PALM KERNEL AND HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN), DAIRY PRODUCT SOLIDS, COCOA PROCESSED WITH ALKALI, AND LESS THAN 2% OF CELLULOSE GUM, NONFAT MILK, SALT, SODIUM CASEINATE, SODIUM CITRATE, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, SODIUM ALUMINOSILICATE, MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, GUAR GUM, ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS

Oh boy! I think that I would rather just make my own with a few simple ingredients. It is so easy and even more delicious!

This recipe makes between 2-4 servings of hot cocoa, depending on the size of mug and the size of the drinker. (haha!)

Heathy Hot Cocoa Recipe

Ingredients:

3 cups almond milk (I love pure almond milk for this, but you can use any milk or milk alternative)

2 heaping tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tbsp pure maple syrup (not pancake syrup), raw honey or coconut sugar

1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract

Recipe:

Mix all of the ingredients together in a small pot, whisk to combine. Place the pot over medium heat until the cocoa is hot, but not boiling. Serve immediately and enjoy!
