This year, I have been trying to come up with healthier versions for some of the traditional holiday dishes, and for me, cranberry sauce is one of those staple dishes that my family just can’t do without. However, even the simplest of sauces are usually filled with cups and cups of processed white sugar. This version is even more flavorful, uses only pure maple syrup to sweeten, and couldn’t be more simple to make.
Pure & Simple Cranberry Sauce
- 2 cups water
- 6 cups cranberries (fresh or frozen)
- 1 cup 100% pure maple syrup (not pancake syrup)
- zest of 1 orange (optional)
Bring water and maple syrup to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add cranberries and orange zest. Return to a gentle boil for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, cover and let cool at room temperature. Refrigerate until served.
Give it a try and let me know what you think!
