Soak Up the Sun and Store Up Vitamin D

Today is the first day of fall and while I am looking forward to pumpkin patches, warm drinks and soups, and the changing colors, it is still sunny and 88 degrees here in Frisco, TX.  So I am taking this opportunity to soak up as much 'summer' and sunlight as I can.  Personally, I don't need an excuse to go lay out in the sun, but I do understand that not everyone is like me.  Here are a few great reasons to soak up the sun and store up your vitamin D.  Studies show that this hormone-like vitamin can help protect you from the cold and flu, depression, hypertension, diabetes, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease.  Safe and adequate vitamin D intake has also been shown to lower…

My Journey to Organic Skincare

NYR Covent Garden Store

Let’s just put it this way, I don’t remember a time when I haven’t battled acne.  I mean, surely I didn’t deal with this problem in the 1st grade, right?  The point is, this has been a battle for me for a long time.  And not only is it the acne itself, but it leaves behind all kinds of scarring that causes it’s own insecurities, even when my face is clear.  I have tried every topical and ingestible medicine that they have come out with.  Sure, some things have worked for a while, but then they don’t, and I am back on the hunt. A couple of years ago, I just started to accept that I may never find the perfect skincare regiment and that…

5 Ways to Exercise as a Family

Over the years, my husband and I have asked ourselves this question a number of times;   “Are we the only couple that actually enjoys spending time with each other and our family?” Actually, I don’t really think that most couples and families don’t like each other, I just wonder how some people can accept that one hour a day it enough “family time”.  Between the time my husband gets home from work each day, and the time our five year old goes to bed, we have less than three hours together, and I know a lot of families that have even less time.  We are consistently rearranging our priorities and schedules so that we can spend as much time together as possible.  One thing…

Self Care = Self Love

Self-care is not only one of the most important things that you can do for your physical health, but it is also extremely important for your mental and emotional well-being.  As a busy mom, wife and health coach, most days the only "me time" I get to myself is in the bathroom.  I know this sounds funny, but think about it. Whether you are bathing, showering, brushing your teeth, skin brushing or doing your make-up, for most of us, these may be the only times during the day that truly belong only to us.  We have to learn to take advantage of them and make the most out of every second.  Stop looking at these tasks as a daunting list of things that have to be…

How to Clear Your Mind in 10 Minutes or Less

IIN - How to Clear Your Mind in 10 Minutes or Less

Feeling stressed or overwhelmed? Do you ever need a mental break? We all have times during our day when we just need to take a minute or two to clear our minds. This sounds so simple, and yet I think we tend to neglect it. Maybe you are the type to lose your temper when you are feeling overwhelmed, or even worse, maybe you tend to hold everything in and let the stress eat away at you little by little. From the time our son was just one year old, my husband and I have been training him to take “time outs” when his emotions take over. This isn’t the same kind of “time out” where a child might find himself with his nose in…

5 Mantras for Daily Self-Love

5 Mantras for Daily Self-Love

Mantras, Incantations, Affirmations … Whatever you choose to call them, they play an important part in creating a life full of health and happiness.  The more we confess positive things about ourselves, the more we begin to believe the things we are speaking.  Unfortunately, this also applies to the negative confession that so many of us have.  "My clothes never fit", "I'm too tired", "I'm always sick", "I hate what I see in the mirror".  Do these things sound familiar?  I challenge you to take one day and really pay attention to the words that you are saying about yourself.  I guarantee that the majority of us need much improvement in this area.  Let's choose to speak words of life!
